TOEFL® Registration

There are a variety of ways to register with ETS (Educational Testing Service) to take your TOEFL test. TOEFL registration will vary depending on your location. The first thing you’ll want to do is visit the ETS Web site to locate the nearest testing center and find out the dates when tests will be given. Remember to register early so you don’t incur any late registration fees!

Once you register for your TOEFL test, then you will be provided with your registration number, test date, reporting time, and test center address. Available methods of TOEFL registration include:

  • TOEFL Online Registration
The fastest and most convenient way to register, TOEFL online registration is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can pay via credit card or e-check. TOEFL online registration services will immediately provide you with all of the details that you need to schedule your test, pay your fees, and confirm your testing date and location.

  • TOEFL Registration by Phone
You can also register for TOEFL testing via phone. Payment by credit card or e-check is required. Don’t forget to record important information given to you over the phone, such as your TOEFL registration number and test center information.

  • TOEFL Registration by Mail
If you complete the online or telephone registration, you can register for the TOEFL by mail. You will need to go to the ETS Web site and download their PDF TOEFL registration form. Send in the form with your payment and requested test date(s). Payment can be remitted via credit card, e-check, check in U.S. dollars, or money order (please contact ETS for complete payment options). You will be assigned to a testing date that is the closest match to your preferences. You can request a rescheduling or returned payment in the event that you cannot accommodate the testing date.

Also, be sure to contact ETS in the event that you don’t receive a confirmation of your TOEFL registration in the mail, so they are given advance notice to respond to any issues. They recommend contacting them at least three days prior to the TOEFL registration deadline for your earliest testing date choice. Note: All test takers with disabilities must use the TOEFL registration form, and cannot register online or via phone. Contact ETS for additional information.

  • Local TOEFL Registration
Local TOEFL registration has limited availability. In select areas, you can visit a local office and register for the TOEFL in person. You can pay at the office using local currency, and then use TOEFL online registration with your payment voucher. All local TOEFL registration offices provide Internet access for students to use.

What Else Do I Need to Know about TOEFL Registration?

With TOEFL online registration, be sure to keep in mind that available centers listed represent any area within a 50-mile radius of the listed location. To broaden your options, search for multiple testing locations/cities, and also choose different dates, since open locations will vary according to the testing date that you choose. You will also want to designate your score recipients ahead of time (codes can be found on the ETS Web site), since you cannot select the colleges and schools you want to send test results to when you arrive at the testing center. For additional information about TOEFL registration, please visit the ETS Web site.
